Take 5 with Jessie James!

She’s a household name (and voice) in living rooms and cars around Western Australia, with thousands of us tuning into Channel 7’s WA Weekender and Mix 94.5 to catch a glimpse of the effervescent energy that is Jessie James. No stranger to hard work, Jessie also puts in some hard yards right here at Pure Moves where our instructors certainly put her through her paces! We love having Jessie around the studio so we sat down with her to find out how she keeps those energy levels up, which class at Pure Moves is really her favourite and where we’d find her on a perfect summer day in WA…

How long have you been coming to Pure Moves?
 Not long enough! I started last year and was seeing great results but unfortunately I came down with Glandular Fever and had to take the rest of the year off.
So I’m back for 2018, healthy and confident in achieving my goals which is to slowly build strength, increase coordination and most importantly, for me, enhance motivation.  After being sick I’ve noticed I have good days and bad days, but since finding something I enjoy and look forward to, it’s easier to push through those ‘off’ days.

What are your favourite classes?
Hands down, I love Barre. I used to be a dancer for many years but am no longer able to fit regular dance classes into my busy lifestyle, so luckily for me, Barre gives me the exercise I need along with the much loved dance elements.
The music is great, the moves are as easy or hard as you make them, and I love seeing the improvement with each session. Who knows, maybe in a few months, I’ll be back in the splits!

You have a pretty demanding job! What are your top three tips to staying fit and healthy?
When I’m fit and healthy I eat well and sleep so much better which is, of course, better for on camera work!

My top tips:
1/ Be Prepared. When you have healthy snacks with you, you’re less likely to eat junk food. If I forget to pack my snacks, I’ll end up with whatever option is available, which is not always the right one. Having healthy snacks in your bag means you can avoid those pesky sugar cravings.
2/ Find 15. You don’t have to do hours of exercise a day…all you need is fifteen minutes of intensity. So when I’m between classes and am time poor, I pack in a whole lot of lunges, squats, jumps, skipping, push ups etc anything that gets the heart rate up!
3/ Drink Water. I drink so much water from the warm lemon water first thing in the morning to up to 3 litres a day. Water flushes toxins, prevents dehydration (which can make you feel hungry) and for me, keeps headaches away.

What beauty products are you loving right now?
I am all for saving the planet so I’ll only use cruelty free beauty products. All my makeup is TMF (The Make Up Factory), which is vegan, cruelty free and made from a local who only sources from Australia (and USA).
Skin wise, it’s really important for me to keep my skin in good condition as the camera shows up everything! I have weekly peels and Omnilux at Skin Deep and love the Elizabeth Arden range. Because I am outdoors a lot, I use a tinted moisturiser with sunscreen to keep that pesky pigment at bay and protect my skin from the ageing affects of the sun.

dsc_1229It’s a beautiful summer day in Perth and you’ve got the whole day to do whatever you like. Where can we find you?
Any chance we get, our family heads straight to Rottnest Island! I’ve been going to Rotto since I was a little girl, and now that I have kids of my own, it’s wonderful to be able to share all those adventures together. When we stay local, it’s down to the river or beach with the dogs!
