A Day In The Life Of An Instructor – Mel

Having just returned from London teaching classes at Core Collective, Melissa is back at her original studio Pure Moves and is going to bring her knowledge and love for fitness in some extra spicy classes.  

Tiny but mighty, Melissa delivers classes that are designed to pack a punch. Expect slow controlled movements that are bound to get your booty and abs burning, combined with bursts of energy to give you that boost to your day. 

We sat down with Melissa to find out what a typical day looks like for her and her secret to sustainable daily exercise…   

What does a typical day look like for you? 

If I’m not teaching in the morning, I’m working out. I love to mix up my Pilates practice with resistance training like TRX or strength, and I always try to get some kind of movement in every day.

A coffee is a morning non-negotiable (of course!)  and then I make a smoothie or eggs for breakfast. I like to use the main part of my day to catch up on life admin and study and coming from London I have been relishing the WA sunshine again, so I always try and fit in a dip at the beach or the pool if I can.  

If I’m not teaching in the evening then I am dining out somewhere, I love catching up with friends and family over a delicious meal, watching the sunset with an Aperol in hand!

What are your health and fitness must haves every day?
Move every single day! I have found the secret to this is finding a routine that you enjoy, that challenges you and helps you learn about your body. Because if we don’t enjoy something it’s not sustainable long term. I like to listen to my body, sometimes I’m not up for a cardio session so I may do a mat class or something just at home, I like to work with my body, not against it.  

I also believe it’s really important to have a balanced diet. I like to keep my breakfast and lunch really healthy and get my daily serves of vegetables in but I don’t like to monitor too much what I eat, we should still enjoy life!


What are your go-to beauty products each day? 

When it comes to skincare I love the entire Medik8 range and my go-to night treatment is the Estee Lauder Advanced Night Repair. I’ve also just started doing at home skin needling and although I hate every second, the results are totally worth it!  

I always have SPF in my tinted moisturiser that I wear daily, I particularly like the IT cosmetics CC Cream or Chantecaille Just Skin. I also love a bit of NARS or Hourglass bronzer especially in summer, but I try to keep it low key day to day.


How do you like to unwind after a big day? 

I love my own company so I like to take a bit of time to myself to sit in silence or maybe listen to a podcast. But I am also partial Aperol or Chardonnay when in the mood!
