Ever since leggings became cool, the explosion of activewear has seen an abundance of new brands dropping new gear making it almost impossible to choose. While there’s no denying the global domination of activewear, we love keeping things local and supporting Aussie brands. To help you narrow down your online shopping cart we’ve put together our absolute favourite labels born and bred here in Oz, because let’s face it, your workout isn’t complete without a cute outfit.
ELA & JACKSON
You can’t get any more local than Ela and Jackson, stunning activewear created right here in Perth. Their striking block palette of red, black and army green adorn the most flattering tights, crops, tanks and swimwear that are designed to suit all shapes and sizes. We love how Ela and Jackson’s gear works with you as you exercise, keeping everything in place, plus they are made with the environment in mind, with all products manufactured from regenerated nylon. Check out some of their range instore at Pure Moves or online at elaandjackson.com
Another homegrown label we can’t get enough of right now is Leelo Active. This Pilates specific brand is the brainchild of Melbourne based Anna Hrist who draws on her love of minimalism and clean lines to create a stunning range of garments that reflect Pilates as a way of life. Contrology offer tights, crops, outerwear and bodysuits in the most luxurious fabrics and silhouettes that even Joseph Pilates would be proud of.
Bondi born and bred, Nimble is fast becoming a staple in the wardrobe of any active woman in Australia right now. There’s something about those long line crops and compression tights that could see us through just about any workout or brunch date. Nimble’s vision goes far beyond activewear though. Driven by strong passion for sustainability and citizenship, their signature fabrics are made from recycled plastic bottles. The company also gives back to multiple charities that support women escaping domestic violence, education in East Africa and essential aid to Syrian refugees.
When Australian fashion icon Jodhi Meares launched The Upside in 2014, the label quickly launched to cult status with just about everyone owning the iconic muscle tank. These days, bright, fun prints and colours set the scene for cute crops and tights, loungewear and a men’s range. As summer rolls around we’re eyeing off some of that swimwear too…
We couldn’t go past everyone’s current fave, P.E Nation. Created by artistic genius, Pip Edwards, P.E Nation is some of the coolest “active streetwear” on the market right now. Think bright block colours, 80’s inspired patterns and styles and firm fitting cuts for the ultimate silhouette.
